WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Residents of both Walnut Ridge and College City may file for city offices beginning today.
It is the first election for the consolidated Walnut Ridge, following the decision to merge the two towns in a special election this year.
The filing period ends August 19. All candidates will file non-partisan. No filing fee will be charged. Petitions may be picked up at the Lawrence County Clerk’s office at the courthouse.
The consolidation effort was overwhelmingly supported by voters in a special election May 10. College City residents voted 38-12 and Walnut Ridge voted 264-32.
Walnut Ridge already provided College City with fire protection, mosquito control, law enforcement and water and sewer services.
