CAVE CITY, Ark. – A traffic stop became a terrifying incident for law enforcement overnight in Cave City, a source tells NEA Report.
A Cave City police officer was attempting to stop a vehicle reported stolen out of Lonoke County close to 1:30 a.m. Monday morning, when it pulled into the parking lot of a church. Before the officer could get out of his car, the suspect reportedly fired a gun at the officer and then fled the scene.
However, with the suspect not being familiar to the area, according to law enforcement, he crashed on a dirt road a short time later. He also was said to have tossed the weapon out of the vehicle during the chase.
The source who spoke to NEA Report said the man gave up without incident once he wrecked. The suspect, who has not been named yet by authorities, was flown to White River Medical Center in Batesville due to the extent of the injuries.
It was said to have been an isolated incident and not believed to be a targeting of police. Authorities continue to investigate.
