Late Sunday shooting creates scare in Jonesboro

JPDJONESBORO, Ark. – The sound of gunshots sent one woman diving to the ground for cover late Sunday in Jonesboro.

It happened at the 400-block of North Allis Street. Jonesboro police responded to the block just after 11:00 p.m. Sunday night to a disturbance call with weapons possibly involved.

When they arrived, several were fleeing and others were distraught.

Officers made contact with an elderly lady who “seemed to be very shaken up.” The woman told officers she heard noises, looked out into her yard and saw 30 people scrambling from the sound of gunshots.

That’s when she dove onto the ground. She also told officers she had a pacemaker, making the frightening event even more scary for her.

The woman checked her vehicle and found two gunshot holes in it, along with the back glass shattered out.

Officers said witnesses were unhelpful but one man told officers the shooter was a tall black man with dreadlocks, driving a red Hyundai Tiburon and wielding a long, silver shotgun.

A JPD detective was called to the scene but no arrests were made.
