Sex offender accused of stealing "seven grocery bags" of DVDs from library

JONESBORO, Ark. – A registered sex offender faces felony charges, accused of trying to steal DVDs from the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library.

William Wilson, 20, of Jonesboro, was observed going into the bathroom, allegedly with several DVDs and then leaving empty DVD boxes behind, according to the Jonesboro police incident report.

When an officer made contact with Wilson, she said he claimed he did not know what the officer was talking about but the story soon began to change. After checking, the officer reportedly learned Wilson was on probation and had failed to check in with his probation officer.

The probation officer also informed the officer that Wilson was a level two sex offender.

The report said Wilson admitted to being at the library with two underage girls, violating the terms of his release.

Wilson also allegedly told the officer he had nearly 20 movies at his residence, “mostly DVD’s of T.V. shows.”

He was arrested for felony theft exceeding $1,000 but less than $5,000 in value, and a felony probation violation. Wilson was then transported to Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.

When officers went to Wilson’s residence, they reported finding seven grocery bags full of DVDs suspected of being stolen from the public library.

At the request of the library management, he was also criminally banned from the premises.
