Arkansas Under Statewide High Wildfire Risk Through Sunday, Agriculture Department Warns

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas is under a statewide high wildfire risk designation through Sunday, and state agriculture officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning as dry conditions increase the chance that fires could ignite and spread quickly.

According to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, fires can start easily under the current conditions, spread rapidly and become dangerous before emergency responders can arrive. The department warned that unattended brush fires and campfires are especially likely to escape.

State officials urged Arkansans to avoid all outdoor burning, never leave flames unattended, use caution with equipment that can spark and keep vehicles off dry grass.

The department also asked residents to report smoke or fire immediately by calling 1-800-468-8834 or contacting local authorities. Current wildfire conditions are available through the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s fire information map.
