Greene County Sheriff Warns of Jury Duty Scam Calls

PARAGOULD, Ark. — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an increase in scam calls over the past several days involving people posing as law enforcement officers.

Sheriff Brad Snyder said scammers have been contacting residents and falsely claiming they missed jury duty and now have an outstanding warrant. The callers then instruct victims to send money, often by going to a store such as CVS to deposit funds to cover supposed fines or fees.

“The scammers have been working overtime the last two days,” Snyder said in a public warning.

Snyder emphasized that the sheriff’s office will never call residents to tell them they missed jury duty or that they have a warrant for their arrest. He also said deputies will never request money over the phone or instruct people to send payments through stores or other third-party services.

“We will NEVER ask for money from you over the phone, and we will never call you regarding a warrant,” Snyder said. “We’re the type to just come handle that business in person.”

Residents who receive suspicious calls are encouraged to hang up and avoid sharing any personal or financial information.

Officials say anyone unsure about a call claiming to be from law enforcement should contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office directly.
