PARAGOULD, Ark. — A crash into a business sign led to multiple charges after officers say the rider fled from a traffic stop and showed signs of intoxication.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Paragould Police Department, an officer observed an ATV being driven at a high rate of speed on Feb. 10, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the potential defendant, identified as Justin Sanders.
Police say Sanders failed to stop, exceeded the posted speed limit and failed to maintain control of the vehicle. The affidavit states Sanders traveled into the opposite lane of traffic and weaved around moving vehicles in an attempt to avoid officers.
Authorities reported the vehicle entered the parking lot of a local business, struck a parking pole and the business’s sign, causing damage.
The vehicle overturned, and Sanders was ejected before being apprehended. Officers rendered aid at the scene.
The affidavit states the officer observed Sanders to have slurred speech, an odor of intoxicants and difficulty standing. An open container of beer was located at the scene along with a cooler containing unopened cans of the same beverage.
Police reported Sanders admitted to drinking alcohol and admitted to traveling 45 to 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Due to apparent injury, Sanders was transported to the emergency room for treatment. Because of the need for medical treatment, officers were unable to conduct standardized field sobriety tests. A blood sample was later obtained pursuant to a search warrant.
Justin Sanders, 30, of Paragould, is charged with felony fleeing, a Class C felony; second-degree criminal mischief; possession of an open container; DWI; reckless driving; and other traffic offenses.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
