CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. — A high-speed pursuit that began on Interstate 40 in Crittenden County on Dec. 27, 2025, ended after an Arkansas State Police trooper was instructed to terminate the chase once the suspect vehicle exited the interstate in Tennessee.
According to an incident report filed by Trooper Eli Thomas, the pursuit began while he was stationary on the shoulder of Interstate 40 eastbound near the 281-mile marker. Trooper Thomas observed a white Chevrolet Camaro pass his location and conducted a license plate check.
The registered owner of the vehicle was found to have a suspended driver’s license, prompting Trooper Thomas to catch up to the vehicle and attempt a traffic stop near the 283-mile marker.
The report states Trooper Thomas observed the Camaro following too closely behind a truck pulling a trailer, with less than one car length between the vehicles. He also observed the driver make an improper lane change by failing to signal while crossing multiple lanes of traffic.
Trooper Thomas activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield and continued traveling eastbound at approximately 68 to 70 mph. After activating his siren, the vehicle continued for about a half mile without stopping.
Trooper Thomas attempted to conduct a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI, maneuver, but disengaged due to traffic conditions. After disengaging, the vehicle rapidly accelerated, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to the report.
The pursuit continued eastbound into Tennessee, with Trooper Thomas maintaining visual contact and notifying dispatch. The Tennessee Highway Patrol was requested to assist.
The vehicle later exited the interstate at Riverside/Front Street and traveled southbound on Front Street. Trooper Thomas continued to maintain visual contact until he was instructed to terminate the pursuit after passing Beale Street.
No information was released regarding whether the driver was later apprehended or if charges were filed.
