Two Found Dead After Early-Morning House Fire in Izard County

MELBOURNE, Ark. — Two people were found dead early Thursday after a house fire in Izard County, according to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies discovered the fire at approximately 3:40 a.m. near the 5000 block of Arkansas Highway 56 in the Violet Hill area. The Franklin Fire Department responded to the scene with assistance from the Melbourne Fire Department.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies confirmed the occupants of the residence were believed to be inside the home at the time of the fire. After firefighters brought the blaze under control, the bodies of two individuals were located inside the residence.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.

Authorities said the bodies will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin.
