PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man was arrested after a shoplifting incident at Walmart escalated into an alleged physical confrontation with a store employee, according to a police affidavit.
Paragould officers were dispatched on Dec. 11, 2025, to Walmart at 2802 W. Kingshighway in reference to a shoplifter. Officers were advised the potential defendant, later identified as Joshua Woodson, had fled the scene in a vehicle.
According to the affidavit, officers contacted Walmart’s loss-prevention employee, who reported attempting to stop Woodson from leaving the store with unpaid merchandise. During that attempt, Woodson allegedly pushed the employee with a closed fist before running to his vehicle and leaving the area.
Police reported the value of the unpaid merchandise was $19.20. Walmart provided written statements and surveillance video that officers said corroborated the incident.
On Dec. 15, 2025, Woodson was arrested and transported to the Paragould Police Department for questioning. During a Mirandized interview, police said Woodson gave self-incriminating statements related to the incident.
Joshua Woodson, 37, was arrested on charges of robbery, a Class B felony, and theft of property, an A misdemeanor.
Bail had not been set as of the latest report.
5-12-102. Robbery.
(a) A person commits robbery if, with the purpose of committing a felony or misdemeanor theft or resisting apprehension immediately after committing a felony or misdemeanor theft, the person employs or threatens to immediately employ physical force, or creates a circumstance that would cause a reasonable person to believe the use of physical force is imminent, upon another person.
(b) Robbery is a Class B felony.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
