West Memphis Teen Charged With Murder in September Shooting

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A West Memphis teen has been charged in connection with a September homicide, police said in a release Saturday.

On Sept. 22, 2025, at about 12:46 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of South Ok Street after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man, identified as Jai Harris, in the driver’s seat of a silver Mercedes SUV suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures before Harris was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Detectives with the West Memphis Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division began investigating and identified 18-year-old Davarious Speed as a suspect. Authorities obtained a felony arrest warrant for first-degree murder and theft of a firearm.

On Oct. 24, 2025, Speed—already in custody at the Crittenden County Jail on a separate firearm theft charge—was formally charged with first-degree murder and theft of a firearm in connection with Harris’ death.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Memphis Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 870-732-7554.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
