PARAGOULD, Ark. — Three people were killed and two others critically injured Friday afternoon in a crash on Highway 412 West, according to Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:44 p.m., just west of County Road 718. The crash involved two passenger vehicles and a tractor-trailer, and one of the vehicles caught fire.

Two people were airlifted from the scene in critical condition.

Arkansas State Police released the fatal crash report on Saturday. The report states that three people were killed and two others were injured in a collision Friday afternoon on U.S. Highway 412 in rural Greene County.

According to the preliminary crash summary, a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Bruce Owens, 49, of Paragould, was traveling westbound behind a 2025 Freightliner. At the same time, a 2020 Jeep Renegade was traveling eastbound in the inside lane.

The Hyundai reportedly passed the Freightliner, crossed the center turn lane and entered the opposing lanes of traffic. As the Hyundai traveled back across the eastbound lanes, its front struck the front of the Jeep Renegade. The Freightliner then struck debris in the roadway.

Three people died in the crash: Sherry Felty, 52, of Paragould, who was a passenger in the Hyundai; and Duane Smith Jr., 40, and Christine Sta Ana, 31, both of Jonesboro, who were in the Jeep Renegade.

Owens and one juvenile passenger in the Jeep were injured.

The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Cpl. Benjamin Rapert of the Arkansas State Police investigated the crash. Felty’s body was taken to McNabb Funeral Home. Owens and the juvenile were transported to AMMC and Regional One Health for treatment.
