Fentanyl Overdose at Bowling Alley Leads to Two Arrests in Searcy

SEARCY, Ark. — A fentanyl overdose at the Super Bowl Bowling Alley in Searcy led to the arrest of two individuals following an investigation by the Searcy Police Department and the Central Arkansas Drug Task Force (CADTF), a press release posted to Facebook on Monday said.

On April 17, 2025, officers responded to a report of an overdose at the bowling alley, located at 825 S. Main Street. They discovered that 32-year-old James Preston Tarkington of Searcy had overdosed on fentanyl while at the location. Tarkington was transported to the hospital by North Star EMS and was treated for the overdose, ultimately surviving the incident.

Due to the high priority of fentanyl-related cases, an immediate investigation was launched. While processing the scene, officers found a powdery substance that tested positive for fentanyl. Following a thorough investigation, authorities arrested both Tarkington and 27-year-old John Sterling Holmes of Searcy on April 25, 2025.

A search warrant was executed on Holmes’ vehicle, where additional fentanyl and paraphernalia were discovered. Another search warrant was carried out at the bowling alley, where more fentanyl paraphernalia was found.

James Preston Tarkington faces charges of Possession of Fentanyl (Class C Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor). John Sterling Holmes is charged with Delivery of Fentanyl (Class Y Felony) and Trafficking Fentanyl (Class Y Felony).

The case remains under investigation.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
