PARAGOULD, Ark. — A suspect is dead following a police chase Thursday that ended outside of Paragould. On Friday, the suspect was identified by Arkansas State Police.
Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder released initial information about the incident, stating that officers with his department, the Paragould Police Department, and Arkansas State Police were involved in a pursuit Thursday afternoon involving a suspect from two violent incidents in another county. The pursuit ended just outside the eastern city limits of Paragould.
According to the sheriff’s statement, as a result of the suspect’s actions following the pursuit, multiple officers on the scene were forced to discharge their firearms, striking the subject. The suspect is deceased. No law enforcement officers were injured during this incident. Sheriff Snyder said there was no further danger to the public and no others were being sought in the case.
Per protocol, officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave. The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Company F, is conducting the investigation. The officers’ names have not yet been released.
According to Arkansas State Police, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Jonesboro Police Department issued an alert to law enforcement to be on the lookout (BOLO) for a subject wanted for a residential burglary in the city. The subject of the BOLO was identified as Kyle Davis, 32, of Paragould, who was believed to be driving a silver Chevrolet pickup truck.
Shortly before 5 p.m., a Paragould Police officer encountered Davis on the Greene County Tech High School campus, and Davis fled.
ASP Troopers intercepted Davis’ vehicle on Jones Road, continuing the pursuit onto State Highway 69, east onto U.S Highway 412, and eventually north on Greene County Road 808. Troopers performed a successful tactical vehicle intervention to end the pursuit. Davis exited his vehicle, brandishing a shotgun and an ax, advancing toward officers. Officers fired on Davis, fatally wounding him.
Three Greene County deputies, one Paragould Police officer, and an ASP Trooper were involved in the incident.
The deceased will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for a determination of the manner and cause of death.
Special agents with ASP CID will prepare an investigative file to be submitted to the Greene County prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by the officers was consistent with Arkansas laws.
