PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man originally charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault has been convicted on four charges after a Greene County jury returned its verdict on Friday.
Larry Kevin King, 53, was found guilty on one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of second-degree sexual assault, and two counts of sexual indecency with a child.
He was acquitted of one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of sexual indecency with a child, and three counts of second-degree sexual assault.
Circuit Judge Melissa Richardson sentenced King to 300 months (25 years) in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. He must also register as a sex offender.
He originally faced two charges of rape – a Class Y felony, four counts of second-degree sexual assault, a Class B felony, and three counts of sexual indecency with a child, a Class D felony.
The probable cause affidavit said that the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline received a report about a minor who had disclosed sexual acts perpetrated on him by an adult male acquaintance. The child was interviewed two days later and told police he had met King when he was 14 years old.
He stated that King was an acquaintance of his parents and that he had been allowed to go out of town with King on several trips. The minor said that soon after meeting him, King bought alcohol for him and attempted to get him to drink. After he drank the alcohol, King allegedly exposed his genitalia to the child and tried to get him to touch it.
The minor provided graphic details of two sexual acts that would constitute rape, the PC affidavit alleges. He also described at least four sexual acts that happened while he was between the age of 14 and 15 that police believe constitute second degree sexual assault. Additionally, he described at least three occasions when King exposed his genitals and performed sexual acts on himself in front of the minor. According to the minor, all of these incidents happened in Greene County and occurred after King had provided him alcohol.
A witness who was interviewed stated that King had unlimited access to the minor during the time frame in which the alleged criminal acts occurred.
