$2 Million Cash Bond Set for Man Accused of Drive-By Shooting in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A suspect faces charges including terroristic act and discharge of a firearm from a vehicle in a case involving an alleged drive-by shooting over the weekend in Paragould.

The probable cause affidavit says that at about 6:50 p.m. on Nov. 2, Paragould Emergency Services received multiple calls reporting shots fired at a residence in the 200 block of South 10th Avenue. One caller specifically reported the defendant shot at them and that he was accompanied by an identified juvenile.

Officers arrived at the scene and learned from several that an argument had ensued with the defendant before he left the residence, according to the affidavit. A short time later, the defendant returned to the residence with the juvenile. Another argument began. Witnesses advised that the defendant was in the passenger seat of the juvenile’s silver Ford Explorer when he brandished an “AR-15 style rifle,” pointed it at a person on the scene, and then fired around three rounds.

Officers at the scene observed bullet holes in the residence. No injuries occurred. Four adults and two juveniles under the age of two were in front of or inside the residence that was shot at.

A witness on the scene provided the juvenile suspect’s location. A short time later, his vehicle was found at the 700 block of Wirt Street, the affidavit said. While approaching the residence, a male was spotted through the front window of the home. As officers awaited backup, someone was heard fleeing through the backyard. Officers commanded the inside of the residence, where two juveniles exited. One of the juveniles said the defendant was the person who had fled out the back door, adding that a gun was in the front seat of his vehicle.

With authorities on alert, a search warrant was obtained for the silver Ford Explorer. An AR-15 pistol, shell casings, and more evidence were collected.

As officers processed two incident locations, Paragould dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a male with a handgun near the area where the defendant had fled. Officers later located the defendant walking in the area and arrested him.

The affidavit said the juveniles were interviewed and gave corroborating stories with the victim’s statements.

The defendant is Devin L. Dancer, 22, of Paragould. He faces charges including terroristic acts and unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, both Class B felonies; and aggravated assault, a Class D felony.

The bond for Dancer was set at $2 million cash-only by Judge Dan Stidham.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
