PARAGOULD, Ark. — A man who was accused of sexual assault voluntarily turned himself in this week in Paragould.
On Oct. 28, officers with the Paragould Police Department were contacted by a female who alleged the defendant had sexually assaulted her. The alleged victim gave a statement to police constituting second-degree sexual assault, according to the probable cause affidavit released.
Later that day, the defendant arrived at the police department unexpectedly, the affidavit said, stating that he wanted to turn himself in to police for committing sexual assault.
Police noted further investigations and interviews conducted corroborated the alleged victim’s statement.
Christopher Upchurch, 19, of Paragould, faces a charge of second-degree sexual assault, a Class B felony.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
