Gearhead Outfitters, Gamble Home joining redevelopment of old Indian Mall site
A press release Wednesday morning from Haag Brown Commercial announced that Gearhead Outfitters and Gamble Home Furnishings have purchased and will occupy the Sears building at the corner of Highland Drive and Caraway Road in Jonesboro.
The vacant Sears building has been the last vestige of the old Indian Mall, which has been redeveloped into what Haag Brown describes as some of the city’s top businesses – Kroger, Texas Roadhouse, and Tommy’s Express Car Wash.
HB Principal Josh Brown chose strong words to describe the meaning of the deal.
“This is the most meaningful retail transaction for Jonesboro in the last decade,” Brown said in the release. “You have two locally cultivated Jonesboro businesses joining forces to purchase and invest in the single most important retail building in the city’s history.”
Sears was one of the original stores in the Indian Mall when it opened in 1968 and it was the last store to close in 2017, more than 10 years after the new Mall at Turtle Creek opened.
Gamble Land Company, LLC and Math Investments, LLC purchased the 82,000 square foot building and the 5.8 acres of land on which it sits for $4,900,000. The team has significant re-development plans in place that will breathe new life into the historic space.
Gamble Home will occupy the eastern end-cap closest to Texas Roadhouse, while Gearhead Outfitters and La-Z-Boy Comfort Studio will occupy the middle portion of the building, leaving the 25,000+ square foot western end-cap available for sale or lease.
The updated facility will also feature a visually impressive exterior design, a covered plaza, upgraded walkways, multiple planting areas, an open greenspace and a small food truck area.
This announcement comes just two years after Haag Brown Commercial released the sale and re-development plans for the former Indian Mall at the intersection of Caraway Road and Highland Drive

Three years ago I purchased a pair of tennis shoes from gear head on main Street in Jonesboro.
The store manager promised me that they were 100% waterproof.
I took his word in faith and paid $119 for them! They were actually not even moisture resistant, especially waterproof!!! The brand is merrell , and they suck.
The laces would loosen up and need to be retied after walking only fifteen feet. The first wearing of the shoes occurred in October of 2017 whenever I was homeless and living in a tent at Craighead forest park. After walking merely ten feet in due covered grass three inches tall, the toes of the shoes were saturated and had to be placed by a campfire to dry!?!? Also, everything they sell is marked up at least 400%… I never said anything about this to the owner or employees. You can purchase great quality items just as good if not better at Plato’s Closet for a very low price. Plato’s has the same and similar brands at their store on Race Street in Jonesboro. I would rather they demolish the Sears building than rent it out to Lying Theiving Crook’s!!! Now you know the Absolute truth concerning Gearhead and their employees.
