JONESBORO, Ark. – The Jonesboro Police Department announces the enrollment for the 9th session of Citizen Police Academy. The Academy is a 12 week program that meets on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. The next session begins March 14, 2019.
The mission of the Citizen Police Academy is to give the public a working knowledge of the Jonesboro Police Department in an effort to dispel misconceptions about officers and departmental operations, encourage a partnership with the community that will enable community-led problem solving, and create an environment for positive police and community interaction.
This academy will not create police officers, but instead aims to educate citizens about the policies, procedures and the laws that govern our actions. The department will benefit from the academy by being afforded a better understanding of the views and concerns of our community, making us more accountable to the public that we serve.
Applicants must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Live or work in Craighead County
- Have no prior felony arrests
- Have had no serious misdemeanor arrests in the last 2 years
- Commit to attending 75 percent of the classes during the session

I would like to attend but my health won’t let me. I’d like to ask the JPD “police Chief Rick Elliott” what are they doing to put a stop to these shooting, murdering, strong arm robberies & home invasions. I’d like to know if they’ve thought about putting smaller police satellite offices in the higher crime rate areas of Jonesboro.They did this some years back but they quit doing it for some reason but the crime rate was wasn’t as bad as it is now. I think if they did that in the higher crime rate areas it would help.
