New Jonesboro TV news launched Monday night

JONESBORO, Ark. – For those who have always wanted a second option in local television news in Northeast Arkansas, one will be launching tonight (Monday, July 17).

KJNB FOX 39 and KJNB CBS 39 are launching local news in Jonesboro, beginning July 17, 2017.  The new newscasts named “Northeast Arkansas News” will air weeknights on CBS 39 at 6 p.m., FOX 39 at 9 p.m. and CBS 39 at 10 p.m.

(Editor’s note: Despite the similar name, program is not affiliated with NEA Report.)

Leading the Northeast Arkansas News team is veteran journalist Lon Tegels.  He is a native of Iowa with more than 30 years’ experience working in large and small television stations. He has led the launch of news for other television stations including the FOX/NBC stations in Biloxi, Mississippi.

“I’m very excited to provide Jonesboro with a choice when it comes to local news coverage, said Tegels, “My parents live in Northeast Arkansas and have felt having a choice for local television news would be a good thing.  Northeast Arkansas News will offer Jonesboro and the surrounding area a compelling brand of news that will give a new voice of local events and happenings.”

The Northeast Arkansas News anchor team will include Purdue University alumna Sarah Blakely, who graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the Brian Lamb School of Communication.

Each newscast will offer Northeast Arkansas’ top stories, local sports and a local weather forecast with local reporters delivering stories important to the Jonesboro area.  The newscast will offer a fresh take on the day’s events and the issues that are important to all of Northeast Arkansas.

Mike Reed, KJNB’s CEO and Owner, says the station is meeting a need in the community by giving viewers another choice of where to get their local news, information and weather.

“Ever since we started the station, we’ve been asked when we were going to offer a local newscast,” said Reed.  “We are excited to bring a fresh perspective on the local news, events and happenings of Northeast Arkansas.  It’s a strong community and we want to reflect the great things happening in our newscasts.”

Northeast Arkansas News will make its inaugural broadcast on Monday, July 17 at 6 p.m. on KJNB CBS 39, with late news on FOX 39 at 9 p.m. and CBS 39 at 10 p.m.

KJNB FOX 39 and CBS 39 broadcasts on channels 39.1 and 39.2.  They air on Suddenlink channels 11 and 13.

KJNB FOX 39 and CBS 39 are proud to bring their power to reach the broadest audience to better serve our viewers, businesses and community organizations of Northeast Arkansas, a press release said.

“It’s all part of our overall mission to ‘Pay it Forward,'” the release said.

  1. I need a job in sales with the new station that is what I have done for 35 years sales for radio stations and my own buy sale and trade tabloid paper Patsy O’Brien 870-483-7026

  2. It’s refreshing to listen to a news anchor who does NOT deliberately mispronounce her vowel sounds, as happens continually on your competitor’s local newscasts. Congratulations, and I for one will be rooting for you to top them in the ratings.

  3. If you are in Jonesboro receiving on antenna, it actually comes on 42.1 and 42.2
