Three arrested in traffic stop for warrants, drugs

JONESBORO, Ark. – Meth and Xanax bars (pills) were found during a traffic stop which led to several arrests Thursday in Jonesboro.

The call began around 1:10 a.m. when Officer Bryan Davis with JPD was headed to the area of Sybel Cove over a reported fight between two males. Dispatch advised the suspects were attempting to leave in a black SUV pulling a trailer. When Davis arrived, he noticed the vehicle pulling out of Sybel. The driver saw him and stopped and the officer pulled in behind to make contact. 

The driver was Thomas M. Cooper, 35. The front seat passenger was Alandis Tacasey Jefferson, 33, and the back seat passenger was Michael D. Hellums, 46, who had a failure to appear warrant through Jonesboro, dispatch advised. The officer had Cooper step out of the vehicle and as he did, he noticed a plastic baggie with a tied knot between the seat and the door. He collected the baggie and observed that it had a corner torn out of it and had a white crystalline residue on it, believed to be meth. A plastic bag was found nearby the car, in the grass, with suspected meth. Two Xanax bars were also found in the car.

All suspects denied the drugs were theirs, leading to all three being arrested.

Cooper was arrested for Possession of Meth or Cocaine l/t 2gr. Hellums was arrested for Possession of Meth or Cocaine l/t 2gr and cited for FTA. Jefferson was arrested for Possession of Meth or Cocaine l/t 2gr and Possession of Sch IV or V.


Other Drug Arrests

Trina Honeycutt (Hotchkiss), 48, of Jonesboro, was approached by an officer at 4 p.m. on July 13 while on patrol southbound on Floyd. She jumped behind some bushes and back out into the roadway. The officer asked why she did that after stopping. She denied it. The officer said she admitted later to tossing a small bag of meth into the bushes, which was recovered. She was arrested for possession of meth.

Edelmira Lopez-Franco, 48, of Jonesboro, was stopped by the Street Crimes Unit at 4:44 p.m. near Bridge and Johnson for failure to use a proper signal while turning. The investigator, Chris Jefferson, gained permission to search the vehicle, he reported. He found a red tooter straw with meth residue inside and inside of Lopez’s purse, found a red, white and yellow tooter straw with more meth residue. She was arrested for felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sandra Dawn Dougan, 33, of Jonesboro, was seen at 6:40 a.m. July 14 near the 400-block of Marshall Street in a white Ford Expedition. The officer said when she and another noticed him, they began moving around in the vehicle as though they were hiding something. The officer said he made contact and conducted a consent search, finding a clear glass pipe with meth residue inside. It was found on the passenger’s side of the center console – where Dougan was sitting. She was arrested for possession of felony drug paraphernalia.
