NEA Baptist recognized for outstanding patient experience

JONESBORO, Ark. – NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital announced today that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2017 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This distinction recognizes NEA Baptist among the top 15% of hospitals nationwide, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

NEA Baptist is also the recipient of the Healthgrades 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award™, becoming the only hospital in Arkansas to achieve both the Patient Experience Award and the Patient Safety Excellence Award. This combined designation ranks NEA Baptist among the top 3% of hospitals nationwide, according to Healthgrades.

Healthgrades evaluated 3,489 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2015 – March 2016 in order to identify hospital performance in this area.

“In our commitment to providing high quality health care, NEA Baptist colleagues work diligently to help ensure the safety of our patients and ultimately, to provide the best experience possible for both the patient and their loved ones,” said Brad Parsons, CEO of NEA Baptist. “We are invested in continual improvement at NEA Baptist to provide the right care, at the right place, at the right time and at the right cost. These prestigious recognitions are a true testament to the work of our team and
I am proud of the engagement from our entire team to accomplish both awards. We are very proud to represent our region and our state as the only hospital in Arkansas to receive both awards. Most importantly, we are thankful for our patients who have entrusted their health to us and we look forward to continuing to provide outstanding care for the needs in our community.”

Healthgrades evaluated performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from a 32-question patient experience survey of the hospital’s own patients. The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. The topics of these questions ranged from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient
would recommend the hospital to friends or family.

In order to be recognized by Healthgrades, hospitals must meet eligibility requirements for consideration, which in addition to the number of survey responses, includes clinical performance thresholds. Nationally, 2941 hospitals met those requirements with 443 hospitals outperforming their peers, based on their patients’ responses in order to achieve this distinction. NEA Baptist’s performance places them among the top 3% in the nation.

“Patient experience metrics resonate with consumers as they evaluate hospitals and select where they want to receive care,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend those hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2017 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for their commitment to delivering superior care experiences to patients during a hospital stay.”
