Man arrested for DWI after wreck

JONESBORO, Ark. – A man was placed under arrested after his car jumped the curb and struck a street sign when the officer said he smelled like liquor.

At 2:23 a.m. Wednesday, Officer Jason Bissett drove upon the accident that had just occurred at the intersection of Southwest Drive and Valley View Drive. A 1997 Chevy Cavalier, driven by Luis Alberto Morales, 37, of Bay, had reportedly jumped the curb on the southeast corner, striking a street sign. 

The officer made contact with Morales who was stumbling out of the vehicle. He smelled of intoxicants, Bissett reported. He stated he didn’t have a driver’s license and could not understand English well enough to follow instructions for a field sobriety test. When he finally blew into the portable breathalyzer, he blew a 0.16 – twice the legal limit. Morales had also urinated all over the front of his jeans, the report said.

Morales was arrested and transported to Craighead County Detention Center. He faces charges including misdemeanor refusal to submit to testing (at the jail), no driver’s license, careless and prohibited driving and DWI.

Per the report, Morales is not a U.S. citizen or a legal alien residing in the U.S.
