Report: Husband drove truck at wife, almost hit her

JONESBORO, Ark. – After a wife told a husband she wanted a divorce, it became clear why she needed to leave in an episode reported to Jonesboro police.

The report was made at 4 p.m. Sunday in Jonesboro. Officers arrived to find a white Ford Mustang sitting in the driveway with a female subject behind the car, leaned on a fence, crying. Three others were gathered around the vehicle. A pole had been hit and the officer asked where the vehicle was which struck it. The witnesses quickly told its direction of travel and it was radioed to nearby officers.

The report says the victim had told her husband the previous night she wanted to file for a divorce. The two had been fighting. So Sunday morning, while the 33-year-old man was at work, a cousin of the soon-to-be-alleged-victim began to move the 29-year-old woman out.

As they reached the driveway, a black Chevy Silverado pulled up and the husband jumped out. He shouted to her she had “f***ed his whole life up,” and kicked the Mustang the two were in – driven by the cousin. The officer noted a scratch left by the steel-toed boot impact on the bumper. The cousin hopped out and said the angered man needed to calm down. She said this is the reason why she is leaving you. The husband then was said, by three different accounts, to have gotten in his truck and said, “I hope you’re happy.”

The report describes the crime that was alleged to have happened next. He then floored the gas pedal and started traveling toward the end of the driveway. He then was said to have floored the gas pedal to turn the vehicle around toward the direction of the victim, standing near the fence. He then drove in her direction, jerking the steering wheel left and out-of-the-way of hitting the horrified woman at the last-minute. He reportedly struck a tree during the event.

At this point, the neighbor, watching the entire incident unfold, called the police.

The 33-year-old man was arrested by a nearby officer and faces charges of felony aggravated assault on a family member and leaving the scene of an accident. He sits in Craighead County Detention Center as of Tuesday morning at 12:10 a.m.
