JONESBORO, Ark. – A dog has been turned over to Jonesboro Animal Control after it was said to have bitten a teen on the mouth this week in Jonesboro.
Jonesboro police took the report Tuesday at the 1100-block of Kitchen Street. The victim’s father said a brown pit bull-breed dog, belonging to the witness’s mother-in-law, had bit his son. The animal’s rabies vaccination was still current, the report said.
Police then went to St. Bernard’s Medical Center to speak with the 16-year-old bite victim. The teen said he had put his head on the dog’s head when the dog suddenly bit him on the lower lip. The bite went “all the way through” the lip, the report said.
The boy’s mom saw the incident happen, along with the dog’s owner and resident of the Kitchen Street address where the bite took place. The owner said she didn’t want the dog anymore since it had bitten someone. She was issued a citation for harboring a vicious animal.
The dog, meanwhile, was transported to Jonesboro Animal Control. NEA Report reached out to Sgt. Larry Rogers, supervisor, and he said he was still looking into the case to make a decision on how to move forward.
Update – 1:30 p.m. 3/22/17 – Sgt. Rogers says parties will go to court and let a judge issue a court order on how to proceed with the dog. He said it will be the judge’s decision on giving it back, having animal control euthanize it or the family having it euthanized.
“I looked at the dog and it is not pure pit,” Rogers clarified. “It is a mix.”
