JONESBORO, Ark. – It was an academy graduate’s second day of training and already, they helped bust a suspected shoplifter and holder of counterfeit money.
Jonesboro Police Department dispatched an officer and a new graduate who was training with the seasoned law enforcer at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to a shoplifting call at Dollar General on 2118 South Caraway Road. When they pulled up, they saw the suspect, John L. Williams, 46, of Forrest City (a.k.a. Wesley Bradford), running through the parking lot from KFC to K-Mart. Williams was placed under arrest as the officers headed back to the Dollar General store.
Police observed surveillance video of Bradford concealing some items in his black backpack, according to the incident report. The manager confronted the man, who gave the items back but then, fled the store.
The suspect was transported to Craighead County Detention Center. During processing, a counterfeit $100.00 bill was reportedly located, folded into other currency.
Williams was charged with felony first degree forgery for the $100 and misdemeanor shoplifting and obstruction of a government operation, for refusing to provide the officers with his identifying information.
He was also held on non-payment of fines and revocation of probation. He reportedly had warrants out of Cherry Valley.
