Early morning crash kills Doniphan man

MAYNARD, Ark. – A traffic accident took the life of a Missouri man early Sunday just east of the Maynard city limits in rural Randolph County.

Clifford L. Summers, 63, of Doniphan, Mo., was killed when the 2015 GMC he was driving west on AR 328 ran off of the roadway while negotiating a curve, according to the Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary. Cpl. Gary Ladner with ASP reported the GMC left the road in rural Randolph County, striking a ditch. It began rolling, ejecting Summers, and finally stopped its movement facing northeast.

The area of highway the accident occurred on was east of Maynard, a small community northeast of Pocahontas, with many rolling hills. Heading westbound on AR 328, one would reach U.S. 115, a highway leading directly to Doniphan, Mo., the home of the driver.

Police noted conditions as being dry and clear at the time of the accident.
